I/ Foreign Affairs:             

During the official visit to Spain from 23 - 25 May 2017, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis agreed to raise the two-way trade turnover to 5 billion Euro by 2020. 

II/ Society-Economy:

- On 22 May 2017, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Viet Nam strived to achieve the GDP growth rate of 6.7% in 2017. 

          - According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, total foreign direct investment (FDI) poured into Viet Nam reached 12.13 billion USD in the first five months of this year, up 0.4 per cent against the same period last year. During the period, 939 projects with registered capital of 5.59 billion USD were newly registered. Additional capital for 437 existing projects stood at 4.75 billion USD, up 83% year-on-year; foreign investors also contributed capital or bought stake with total value of 1.79 billion USD, up 116.2% year-on-year.             

- According to the General Department of Viet Nam Customs, as of 15 May 2017, fruit and vegetable exports of Viet Nam earned an estimated 1.2 billion USD, up 40% from the same period last year. The export turover shows that fruit and vegetable exports of Viet Nam can reach its target of 3 billion in 2017. 

- According to MOU on rice trading between Viet Nam and Bangladesh signed 23 May 2017, Viet Nam will sell up to 1 million tons of rice to Bangladesh each year. 

 - International exhibition on milk and dairy products of Viet Nam – Viet Nam Dairy 2017 - will be held in Ha Noi from 31 May – 1 June 2017. 

- According to Forbes magazine, 4 Vietnamese companies in the list top 2.000 biggest companies in the world are: Viet Nam Industrial and Commercial bank (Vietinbank) ranks 1.633; Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) ranks 1682; Viet Nam Commercial bank (Vietcombank) ranks 1.656 and Viet Nam Milk Company (Vinamilk) ranks 1.888. 

II/ Culture – Sport – Tourism:

- Bai Tu Long National Park, Quang Ninh province, has been recognised as the 38th ASEAN Heritage Park under 6 criterias including ecological integrity, symbolism, natural features, high conservation value, management and preservation plan, and legality. The 5 other parks of Viet Nam won the same title are: Ba Be (Bac Kan province), Hoang Lien (Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces), Kon Ka Kinh (Gia Lai province), Chu Mom Ray (Kon Tum province) and U Minh Thuong (Kien Giang province). 

- Viet Nam won 01 third prize and 04 fourth prizes at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2017 (Intel ISEF), held in California, US on 20 May 2017. 

- Vietnamese gymnast Le Thanh Tung won the men’s gold medal at the vault event of the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand. Vietnamese women volleyball team won bronze medal at the Asian Women's U23 Volleyball Championship which was held in Thailand from 13 -21 May 2017. 

- Vietnamese athletics team won 06 medals including 01 gold medals and 05 silver medals at the Asian Youth Athletics Championship which was held in Thailand from 20 – 23 May 2017. 

          - International Master Vo Thi Kim Phung of Viet Nam won gold medal in the women’s standard chess category of  the Asian Continental Chess Championship, which was held in China on 20 May 2017./.
